Under this plan, customers have to take a new sim and a Starter Pack of Rs. 60 which is valid for 30 days and will offer Rs. 20 talktime, all local on-net calls at 1 ps/2sec and off-net calls at 1 ps/sec for first month. Customer will also get 200 free sms for online first month (30 days) and 50 free messages on second month onwards.

State owned telecom service provider BSNL, which was reportedly looking to surrender its BWA(Broadband Wireless Access) spectrum, has got an approval from India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT), according to The Economic Times, which bill has online payment quoted the Telecom Secretary R bill Chandrasekhar to confirm the development. It cites a senior official to add that the Government might go ahead with a fresh round of auctions to sell the surrendered spectrum. According to Chandrasekhar, BSNL has not yet finalised details such as the number of circles for which it wants to return the spectrum, since that would also depend on factors like price of spectrumbill in a circle and whether network equipment has been installed or not. He said that BSNL, online unlike other operators, was given spectrum without the price being fixed in a number of circles, which makes it an unviable proposition for the telco. He informed that the government was working out details with BSNL for the refund of the auction price. BSNL had paid Rs 8,313.80 crore to acquire spectrum in 17 circles. Earlier, it was reported that BSNL had written a letter to the DoT, conveying its intent and had said that it only wanted to retain spectrum in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana online service bill areas. It had also mentioned that the spectrum alloted to it was in a non standardized frequency band, which would hamper its prospects. As we pointed out in the earlier post, it’s strange that Reliance Industries owned Infotel, Bharti, Aircel, Tikona, Augere and Qualcomm had won spectrum in a standard 2.3 GHz frequency band at almost the bill same cost per circle, while BSNL got spectrum in payment a non-standard 2.6 GHz band. The telecom secretary has hinted that the surrendered online spectrum will be bill merged with spectrum available for auction for the next round, fetching the Government more revenue, while the ailing telco would get some funds for meeting its expenditure. _BSNL’s Partner MyWay Reportedly Closing Down Its IPTV Service
One of BSNL’s IPTV partners, My Way is shutting down its operations in India following poor subscriber uptake, according to The Hindu. The report mentions that the company bill representatives have now started collecting back all the Set Top Boxes issued to customers in Chennai, although an official communication about the online discontinuation hasn’t been conveyed to My Way subscribers yet. A My Way spokesman informed the publication that the group’s Indian operations were being payment discontinued since they had turned highly unviable. Although BSNL had claimed 3,000 subscribers in the state, MyWay had put it at 500, as per the report. MyWay, a digital entertainment enterprise owned by Smart TV Group, had launched its IPTV operations in October 2009. It had entered into long-term contracts with MTNL and BSNL to provide bill co-branded online interactive video services in India and claims to offer its services in 54 cities, accounting for 50% of the urban population. This announcement comes hardly as a surprise since the IPTV scene seems to be in a pretty bad payment shape in the country. Aksh Optifibre, a BSNL and MTNL IPTV franchise, had earlier online reported a decline in its revenue and was eyeing Dubai. MTNL had around 5910 IPTV connectionsbill as of February 2011, and Airtel had informed that it is going considerably slower on its IPTV service as compared to its DTH service. We wonder if we’ll see more vendors shutting down their IPTV operations in the coming year.
